The consumer segmentation offers a homogenous distribution of Belgian households in 8 groups and 33 types. Within each Mosaic-type households have similar characteristics and can be approached in the same way.
A The High Life
The Mosaic group “The High Life” consists of types that have the highest level of prosperity in Belgium. Top managers, CEOs and successful professionals are the most common occupations within these households. They often live in villas on the outskirts of Belgian major cities.
B Affluent Residences
Households within this group also have a high level of prosperity. These are often families with children and live in comfortable single-family houses. This group is mostly present in Flanders.
C Urban Satellites
These households are mainly composed of couples without children. Two reasons can be found for this: on the one hand because they have already left the house or on the other hand simply because there are no children yet. These households have an average level of prosperity and seem to have a certain aversion to online purchases. In their spare time they are happy to swop their car for their bike.
D Comfortable Middle Class
The D-group mainly consists of households living in the Flemish countryside in recent detached houses. This group represents 13% of the Belgian population. Their income is close to the national average. Manual workers, interim workers and pensioners can be found in this group.
E Rural Life
As you can guess, the E-group consists of households living in the countryside. They can be distinguished from the D-group in different aspects: they often live in very old (renovated) houses, there are mainly employees from the private sector or are the self-employed. These Mosaic types can be found in different locations in Belgium.
F Industrial Life
F-group households mostly have an industrial history. These Mosaic types mainly live in Wallonia and can be found numerous in the Sambre and Meuse valleys. Often these households live in apartments or in terraced houses and have a lower level of prosperity. There are many unemployed persons and manual workers in this group.
G Small Towns and Urban Periphery
Households from the G-group have a strong presence in small cities and on the outskirts of larger cities. These small households have an average level of prosperity and often live in apartments or terraced houses.
H Metropolitans
The H-group consists essentially of single-person households living in apartments in cities like Brussels. Their professions are extremely diverse such as top professionals, CEOs and unemployed persons. What mainly connects these different types of the H-group is their urban character and their lifestyle. For example, these households are avid users of online purchases and attach great importance to buying organic and fair trade food.
